Erica Daniels, an Ardmore native who is using marijuana to treat her severely autistic son Leo, will be featured on Wednesday’s Weediquette episode “Herb for Autism,” writes Patricia Madej for Philly Voice.
The Viceland show examines the impact of marijuana legalization across the country. Daniels also wrote about using marijuana as a treatment for her son in a feature for Elevated Nation. In it she highlighted that Pennsylvania had become the first state to include autism as a qualifying condition.
“For the first time, I was able to connect with Leo in a way that I had never known, we did things that we never did before like sit together and watch a movie,” said Daniels in the article.
Initially she kept the new treatment to herself, but the amazing change in Leo made it impossible to keep her secret hidden for long. Once she started telling family, friends, and Leo’s teachers and therapists, the reactions were overwhelmingly positive.
“I no longer think of marijuana as “pot,” or “weed,” but a plant with the potential to heal so many ill people, including the estimated 300,000 Pennsylvanians living with autism,” said Daniels.
